Mat '46 electric train set in scale 1:160

The Materieel '46, also known as the Mat '46, was an electric multiple unit operated by the Dutch Railways (NS) starting in the late 1940s. The trains were known for their streamlined design and green color, typical of the era. They were the successor to the Mat '36 and marked the transition to modern electric rail transport in the Netherlands.

The trainsets operated for many years on both local and express services and remained in service until the 1970s. Their characteristic round nose and classic design make the Mat '46 a beloved model among rail enthusiasts.

Important information

  • Since this product is made as a hobby, it will unfortunately never be completely perfect and straight.
  • There is no lighting in this train, both front and rear lighting and interior lighting are missing.

  • 🔧 Replace clutch

    The Mat'46 comes standard with a replica coupling on the front and rear bodies. This can easily be replaced with a magnetic coupling.

    To do this, follow these steps:

    • Remove the hood by removing the 2 screws at the front.
    • At the back of the box, you need to bend the box outwards a little so that it can be slid off the clip in the hood.

    • There's a small cover on the front of the base plate. You can carefully pry this up with a small screwdriver by pushing upward from underneath the plate.
    • Replace the clutch and put the cover back on.

  • 🚆 Magnetic coupling & coupled driving

    Each Mat'46 set comes with one magnetic coupling. By simply installing this according to the instructions shown here, you can run two ICM trains coupled together.










    Note: Narrow S-curves, such as the Kato Unitrack R248, can cause derailments. No problems have been observed with larger S-curves and switches.
